The CD was recorded live on April 8, 2000, at the State Theater in Olympia, Washington, in front of a sold-out audience. The material is all new original pieces by Jovino, along with a piano/clarinet duo version of Intrigas no Boteco do Padilha, a traditional choro from 1940 written by Luis Americano. The Quinteto delivered a solid performance of new material, and the public showed its warm appreciation for the band. San Francisco reedsman Harvey Wainapel , one of the leading West Coast jazz players, shows his command of the Brazilian musical idiom on soprano, alto, tenor saxes as well as clarinet. Bassist Chuck Deardorf and drummer Mark Ivester have been members of Jovino's ensemble since 1994, and their precise interpretations of samba, baião, and choro rhythms are unique among North American musicians. Percussionist Jeff Busch adds his own creativity and sounds to the mix, rounding off the Quinteto's signature mix of Brazilian, jazz and classical idioms. Jovino Santos Neto composed 7 of the 8 cuts on the CD, and plays piano throughout. Paul de Barros (Seattle Times, Downbeat) wrote the liner notes, and Ja Poolsawad created the cover art.
